Amazon reported a big Q2′07 quarter yesterday, here are a few highlights:

  • Sales in North America grew to $1.6B, a 38% increase over the same quarter last year (int’l grew 26%)
  • Worldwide Media grew 27%
  • Electronics and General Merchandise category grew 55% and now comprises 34% of all Amazon sales (from 29%)
  • Net Income rose 250% to $78 million
  • Launched Seller Central for Amazon France
  • 265,000 developers registered for using Amazon Web Services

We’ve seen accelerating sales on Amazon from our merchants as well as a surge of interest from online retailers that want to get access to Amazon’s attractive buyer base, its superior shopping experience, customer service and trust factor. So this is not a big surprise to us (only more motivation to advocate taking a close look at Amazon as a key component of a multi-channel portfolio).

I am visiting Amazon today in Seattle and there’s probably no better day to do so then today, going to buy them a cake to celebrate while we explore how we can collaboratively help online retailers of all sizes succeed.

One item of note in the press release was that Amazon and Lacoste launched a “multi-channel e-commerce solution, including a website (www.lacoste.com), phone ordering, customer service, and fulfillment.” Going to be interesting to see what they’re planning along those lines …
