In addition to announcing the launch of ShoppingAdvisor at Internet Retailer, we’re also announcing that we’re the first solution to natively support TheFind.com. If you’re familiar with TheFind at all, you know that as a merchant you can sign up and have them crawl your site. Crawling involves TheFind sending automated spiders over your site, much like Google, to determine the products that live there.

So why would you want to send them your products outside of this process?

Let’s walk through a couple of the reasons:

  • Completeness: As even Google will tell you, crawling is an inexact science. Spiders will get confused/trapped. Products will be missed, links will be dead, etc. Wouldn’t you want to make sure your whole product catalog gets out there?
  • Control: With crawling, you have no way to control which data is sent for which products to the site. The spiders have to guess which field is the price, which field is the title. If you’re running a promotion, etc. There are a lot of things that are just tough for technology to guess. Why do you think Google created Google Base? So you could tell them directly about your products. The same thing applies here.
  • Reporting: With our reporting technology, all the traffic and orders you receive from TheFind will show up right beside your other providers.

So… after you’ve signed up with ShoppingAdvisor, all you need to do is enter your merchant credentials, and start merchandising your products on a new provider. You could literally set it up yourself in less than a minute.

ps: Did I mention TheFind is free?
