Google Releases New Groups Software
In a move that looks like they are moving into turf that Yahoo Groups and other community-type sites have traditionally been strong in, Google has redesigned its Groups software more around communities.
Now you can customize the look of your group, create and edit web pages, upload and share files (including photos), and view member profiles. And for your discussions, there’s no need to struggle to follow interrupted conversations, as Google Groups now includes the same style of organization that Gmail users love.
Why is this important for e-commerce? Well, these days sites are becoming not just destinations for products, but also communities where people can share, collaborate, help each other, recommend, rant, etc. Sellers that understand that will have a better chance in the future. Google Groups could potentially provide that for the right price (free).
Plus, Groups are indexed automatically in Google’s Search Engine, a huge advantage over other community solutions.
